Celebrating our Unity in Christ

Indigenous Sunday Service

Sunday, June 23 @10am @ Good Shepherd Church, Barrhaven. Canadians celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st of each year. We hold our annual Indigenous Sunday Service on the Sunday following this important day (June 23rd).

Many people don’t realize that Indigenous Peoples make up a large component of the Christian Church in Canada. In the Anglican Church of Canada, Indigenous Peoples are some of the most faithful and devoted followers of Jesus. Our Indigenous Sunday Service celebrates the many ways Native culture blesses our common life. It also celebrates the unity we have in Jesus even amid our diversity. Come and learn more about Native culture and the many ways non-Natives can learn to honour God more faithfully by adopting Native ways.

This year’s service will feature drummers from Kateri Native ministry, who help us in leading music for our worship service. Dr. Jonathon Dewar will be our speaker, reflecting on what reconciliation with Indigenous peoples means from a non-Native perspective. Songs, worship and liturgy will include features from Native Christianity provided for us by Native Christians.

This important service is an important worship event arranged each year as part of our Sunday worship. All are welcome, so please plan on coming. Bring a friend!
