An Evening of Candle, Silence and Chant

Choral Night Prayer

Sunday, December 15th at 7:30pm. Join us for this beautiful service of Choral Night Prayer. Experience the music and rhythms of the Medieval Church. Support the Barrhaven Food Cupboard. Held at Good Shepherd, 5 – 3500 Fallowfield Road (in the Barrhaven Crossing Mall).

Our service of Choral Night Prayer follows the pattern of Compline found in the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Compline is a service of contemplation and thanksgiving at the end of day. Compline features times of silence, choral music and thoughtful prayer. It helps calm our spirits at the end of day and asks for God’s protection through our sleeping hours. Compline lasts about 45 minutes.

The Vocata Trio will lead us through the evening. Vocata is a local trio of women’s voices accomplished in the singing of Gregorian chant, classical repertoire, Celtic and original compositions.  Their voices will lead us through the anthems, hymns and chanted liturgy of the service. However, parts of the service include congregational singing.

This service is scheduled during the Advent season, in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Music will reflect the Advent themes of reflection and hope for Christ’s coming.

We don’t charge admission, but we will collect a freewill offering for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard. This important organization supports local families in need.

Good Shepherd offers this service as part of our worship ministry.
