An Evening of Candle, Silence and Chant

Choral Night Prayer

Sunday, March 1st at 7:30pm. Join us for this beautiful service of Choral Night Prayer. Experience the music and rhythms of the Medieval Church. Support the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. Held at Good Shepherd, 5 – 3500 Fallowfield Road (in the Barrhaven Crossing Mall).

Choral Night Prayer follows the pattern of Compline found in the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Compline is a service of contemplation and thanksgiving at the end of day. It features times of silence, choral music and thoughtful prayer. It calms our spirits at the end of day and asks for God’s protection through our sleeping hours. Compline lasts about 30 minutes.

Vocata will lead us through the evening. Vocata is a local trio of women’s voices. They are accomplished in the singing of Gregorian chant, classical repertoire, Celtic and original compositions. Vocata’s voices will accompany us through the anthems, hymns and chanted liturgy of the service. However, parts of the service include congregational singing.

This service is scheduled during the Lenten season, in the weeks leading up to Easter. Our music will reflect the Lenten themes of reflection and repentance.

We don’t charge admission, but we will collect a freewill offering for the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. This fund is used by our church to support local families in need.

Good Shepherd offers this service as part of ourĀ worship ministry.
